Could you stop all your scheduled social media if you had to?

Most people who do a lot of social media rely on scheduling tools like Buffer, Hootsuite, and Shareist, to set up social sharing for an entire week, or month, or longer. This is a great way to keep your social channels active with foundational content, and content that matches events, promotions, and other content planned on your editorial calendar. This allows you to spend most of your time filling in the gaps with timely updates and epic content.

Mostly, this sort of content tends to be fun and promotional, designed to increase customer engagement. And it works really well.

Until some sort of disaster or tragedy strikes.

Like a hurricane or a tsunami or a shooting (I hate to even think about it) or some event that turns the world's attention toward some serious or grave issue.

And of course we all stop our fun and promotional activity on facebook and twitter because it's insensitive.

But our scheduled posts keep on going out.

When disaster strikes, remember that you may have different types of content scheduled. Here are some places to look:

  • Scheduled social media updates
  • Blogs with scheduled posts
  • Social media ads and boosted posts
  • Retargeting and Paid search ads
  • Email newsletters
  • Staff who posts on your behalf -- don't assume they know something happened.

That's a lot, but a good rule of thumb is that you should never automate to the point that you cannot undo it if something goes wrong.

We've got you covered in Shareist.

Pausing Social Media in Shareist

Now you can hit the pause button on your scheduled social media in Shareist, and none of your scheduled shares will go out until you Unpause.

  • Any of the shares that got skipped will need to be rescheduled. But that's easy.
  • Only the project owner and collaborators can pause sheduled shares.
  • You can still post "now" to social media scheduled sharing is paused.
  • Each project can be paused and unpaused separately.

You can easily see which projects are paused on the dashboard and projects pages.

So go ahead and schedule out weeks in advance knowing that you can always put on the brakes.

Let's hope nobody ever needs it.
